Iām Deena.
I live in the Carolinas and have been a freelance writer for local, regional, national, and international publications for more than 30 years. My Southern literary novels are Broken Shells and Playing Guy. Light Fracture, historical literary fiction published in April 2021, focuses on the devastating 1886 Charleston, S.C. I have also written a children's book, Our Wintry Day Walk (Trafford), and contributed to Portraits of Grace: North Carolina Churches (Our State Books); Humor for a Sister's Heart (Howard); and, Big Book of Christmas Joy (Howard) - as well as ghost-written history-related books.
I am also the manager editor for a Western Carolina community newspaper, Macon Sense.
I have been able to tackle a variety of writing projects from research-focused to journalistic to features-oriented to creative. I am highly organized and detail-oriented and have been respected as a writer for presenting clean, thorough, and accurate text - and for meeting deadlines.
In my free time, you can find me tending to my garden in Western North Carolina, riding horses, and playing with my Husky-Pyrenees mix, Mingo. My husband, Dan, and I are also avid campers and hikers, having logged thousands of miles with our 1969 14-foot Shasta - with wings, of course.
